Andromeda is our closest neighbouring galaxy. It’s said that our two galaxies will merge into one in about 4.5 million years, and perhaps we might even be fine given the amount of empty space in our galaxies.
I can say fairly confidently that I won’t be around to see the merger.
This image shows Andromeda rising up over the barrens just outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Andromeda is roughly 6x the size as our moon is from our view on earth.
Not that you or I can see it with our eyes (unless you have robot AI eyes)
But with careful planning, the right gear, and a lot of patience it can be captured on camera. This image took over 2 hours worth of shooting time and many more in post-processing to create.
However the perspective makes it all the more worth it!
