Resilience, a guiding night in the dark, a beacon of hope.

Peggy’s Point Lighthouse is perched on a barren outcrop of granite jutting into the great Atlantic Ocean. The first lighthouse here was a wooden structure erected in 1868 and was replaced with what you see here in 1914.

This lighthouse is the most visited in Nova Scotia and our most iconic symbol as a province. During the day it is teeming with life, souls adventuring on the rocks, sitting quietly by the sea, or grabbing a treat from the Sou’wester.

But at night I ofter have it all to myself.

This image has been created using a longer focal length lens and a special type of mount colloquially called a “star tracker” that enables better capture of the faint objects in our night sky.

The use of the long lens allows a magnification of the sky and here a region of the Milky Way core that is known as the “Dark Horse” - creating a striking juxtaposition.
